Once I finshed creating the map I was able to further isolate the cities and schools that would potentially be in harms way during an eruption. I am surprised that just by using two DEMS I was able to create a layer that displayed the streams that would collect.

Lahar Hazard Areas: Mt. Hood, Oregon
This week was one of the most challenging GIS projects I've worked on. I think it was so difficult primarily because I have taken some time off from ArcMap and had forgotten some of the basic processes and tools. I was stuck on one part, and that one part took my a whole day just to figure out. So needless to say I spent much more time than necessary on this assignment. Overall, now that it is finished, I am very pleased with my work. I had a tough time isolating the blocks within the buffer zone of the stream. Instead of using cut or intersect like I would have normally done, I had to find another way around it since those tools made the result look like a worm instead of the natural shapes of the blocks. I ended up using the tool, "select layer by location" and was able to select the blocks that were coming in contact with the buffer zone. After I was able to select the blocks I needed I created a new layer with the selected data, then proceeded to save it.
